Mission of the organisation

The primary objective of Nature Seychelles is to improve the conservation of biodiversity through science, management, education and training.

Recent Achievements

  • Initiated ecological restoration of an island. Alien vegetation removed, hazardous chemicals phased out, before reforestation with native trees and translocations of threatened endemic birds
  • Produced Guide to Sustainable Living in Seychelles
  • Produced draft Action Plan for all threatened birds in Seychelles
  • Active conservation management of the Seychelles Magpie-robins, resulted in the highest population of the species for a Century
  • Opened an international field centre on Cousin island Special Reserve
  • Released a major education publication to introduce bird ecology concepts into the national curricula
  • Initiated a capacity building EnviroMentor programme for young Seychellois
  • Initiated a weekly Seychelles environment column in the local newspaper
