BirdLife International is a global negotiation powerhouse. We advocate for nature to drive transformative change and ensure the long-term legacy and impact of our science and conservation actions. Our Global Policy Division plays a crucial role in international negotiations and supports our 123 Partners in their own advocacy work.

The BirdLife Partnership is a powerful international force advocating for nature from local to global. Our Global Policy Division leads on representing the Partnership at international negotiations, using these platforms to push governments towards taking ambitious action for nature, climate and people.  The team also supports BirdLife Partners to advocate with their governments to ensure international commitments for nature and climate are implemented at the national level.

This morning, a majority of EU Member States agreed to adopt the European Commission’s proposal [1] to downgrade the protection status of the wolf under the Bern Convention. This shift opens the door to wolf culling as a false solution to livestock depredation, which runs counter to Europe’s commitment to safeguard and restore biodiversity. The decision went through after Germany unexpectedly changed its position from abstention to support at the last minute.
